Jessica Simpson Opens Up About Struggle with Addiction in New Memoir 'Open Book'

Singer-turned-reality-star-turned-designer Jessica Simpson has revealed her past battle with addiction.

She writes about her relationship with alcohol and pills, as well as her path to recovery, in a new memoir called Open Book.

In an excerpt shared by People, Simpson admitted that she hit rock bottom in 2017 and hasn't had a drink since.

"I need to stop. Something's got to stop," she said after a Halloween party in 2017. "And if it's the alcohol that's doing this, and making things worse, then I quit."

"I was killing myself with all the drinking and pills," she says in the book. "Giving up the alcohol was easy. I was mad at that bottle. At how it allowed me to stay complacent and numb."

Simpson claims the therapy aspect of her recovery was more difficult, as she had to come to terms with being sexually abused as a child.

"When I finally said I needed help, it was like I was that little girl that found her calling again in life," she writes. "I found direction and that was to walk straight ahead with no fear."

Open Book is due out on February 4. Simpson recorded the audio book version of Open Book, as well as six new songs to accompany the release of the memoir.
