"Friday Night at the Drive-In Bingo"

BY Cam LindsayPublished Jul 30, 2007

The drive-in bingo trend hasn't yet caught on here in North America - maybe it's a Swedish thing - but debonair crooner Jens Lekman is just the man to bring such a hobby to these shores. It's been three years since this Swede's last proper full-length, When I Said I Wanted To Be Your Dog, so this lead single (out on Srvice in Sweden tomorrow, July 31) is a good sign that Night Falls Over Kortedala will live up to the enormous expecatations. Like something you'd hear on the jukebox in Arnold's (that's a Happy Days reference, kids), the sax sounds like it never left pop music, leading the melody while the "knick-knack-patty-whack" percussion furthers this man's passion for appealing to his grandparents. The peppy build up at the end just screams for the Fonz to strut in, give his thumbs up in approval and go "Ehh!" before snapping his fingers and walking off with a girl on each arm. Priceless.
