Jay Bennett Passes, Cadence Weapon Named Edmonton's Poet Laureate and More in This Week's News Round-Up

So another week has past and so too has another five days of music news mayhem. Picking a top story for this week is pretty much a no-brainer. On Monday, we reported that former Wilco member Jay Bennett passed away in his Illinois home. The cause of death has yet to be determined, and according to the coroners, it may not be known for a while. However, his mailing list did send out this loving shout-out filling us in on just what was going on in Bennett's life in the lead-up to his death.

Also topping this week's list of notable events, we had Roland "Cadence Weapon" Pemberton being sworn in as Edmonton's poet laureate, a position last held by a U of A prof who has published 29 books and won two Governor General's Award (seriously, how crazy is that?); Ozzy announcing he's taking his old guitar slinger Tony Iommi to court; and Nas causing a big stink over in Newfoundland after the rapper was a no-show for a concert in Torbay.

We also got the scoop yesterday that Toronto's Ohbijou are now calling Last Gang their label home, and that Fucked Up's Pink Eyes will begin fucking things up on the Red Eye as a regular Fox News commentator. Oh, and just because it's always nice to end things on a total downer, German metal label SPV has been declared insolvent (in other words, dudes are bankrupt).
