Jay Z & 9th Wonder

'Black American Gangster' (mixtape)

Considering Jay-Z is reportedly working on the score to The Great Gatsby, it might be a while before HOVA gets back to his solo grind. While it might not sate anyone looking for new tunes, producer 9th Wonder is doing the next best thing by dropping a full-album re-envisioning of 2007's American Gangster via his Black American Gangster mixtape.

The spit-shined affair pits familiar verses from Jay-Z and guests like Lil Wayne and Nas with newly crafted beats sampling the likes of the Stylistics, Curtis Mayfield and more. You can check out and download the reworkings down below.

You may remember that 9th Wonder pulled a similar stunt in 2004, when he remixed Jigga's The Black Album as Black Is Back.
