Jason Collett

"Song and Dance Man" (video)

Folksy Torontonian Jason Collett recently unveiled plans to serve up his sixth solo album, Song and Dance Man, and he's adding to the anticipation with a new video for the record's title track.

The clip was edited by fellow Arts & Crafts singer-songwriter Hayden Desser and depicts the struggles of a modern day music maker using footage of performers from the past.

"I've always been a fan of Hayden's videos, particularly the dry wit he employs while still exploring a kind of fundamental beauty," Collett said in a press release. "He's got a keen sense of rhythm editing found footage and I love how the carnival atmosphere in this video lends itself to the light-hearted through-line of the song — the absurd, tragi-comic nature of the hustle that musicians, or any kind of artist, are expected to engage in these days."

Collett will be returning to the Dakota Tavern once again this December for a five-date revival of his annual Basement Revue series. See the list of shows below, and keep scrolling to check out the video for "Song and Dance Man."

The record of the same name arrives on February 5 via Arts & Crafts.
