Jamie xx Announces Plans to Finish Solo Album This Summer, Shares New Track

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jun 20, 2014

Jamie xx has rolled out a number of solo cuts this year, and now the xx's beatmaker has rolled out another track and promised that a full album will follow.

The producer also known as Jamie Smith appeared on Annie Mac's BBC Radio 1 show and spoke about his plans. He confirmed that he has very few gigs in the summer, and gave this explanation of how he will be spending his time: "I'm going to be recording with the xx, doing a couple of DJ things, and finishing my album."

He added that the single tracks "Sleep Sound" and "Girl" would be on the album. He said, "I'm kind of finishing it [the album], but yeah, I'm pretty sure they will." Revisit those songs below.

He also shared a tribute to the UK's dance scene called "All Under One Roof Raving." It's a buoyant mix of spoken samples, tropical steel drum plinks and impeccably produced dance beats. Listen to it over at the BBC (the interview starts just after the 58-minute mark, and the song begins a couple of minutes later).

UPDATE: You can now hear the proper studio version here.

Stay tuned for updates about Jamie's planned solo album. Since the xx are evidently recording this year, we may also hear from them before too long.
