St. John's songwriter and Studio J producer Jake Nicoll is going through his Saturn Returns with his new album. It's out August 1, and the single "Free Space" is out now.
He began working on the album when he turned 30, naming it after the astrological concept of transitioning into adulthood. He's been working on it in the background of his other projects for the past six years, taking breaks from his guitar-based albums Pool House and Lonely Mission to let loose with the synth experiments of Saturn Returns.
Nicoll recorded and performed the album almost entirely alone, with the exception of a vocal cameo from Pamela Mackenzie on "Free Space." He won't be able to tour extensively in support of the album because he's a new dad, so he's instead plotting a series of animated videos and a side-scrolling video game. Fun!
