Jade Tree Collects Promise Ring, Fucked Up, Kid Dynamite Tracks for 'Twenty Five Years' Collection
Published Jan 13, 2016While Jade Tree Records' current lineup includes acts like Dogs on Acid, You Blew It! and Spraynard, the long-running punk-and-indie imprint will be highlighting some of its most famous acts on an upcoming, celebratory compilation. Featuring songs from the Promise Ring, Fucked Up, Joan of Arc and more, the label's Twenty Five Years lands February 26.
Jade Tree announced the collection today (January 13), confirming that the record features "13 tracks from 13 artists who brought Jade Tree to where it is today."
Twenty Five Years tends to focus on the late '90s to early '00s period of the label. The comp starts off with breakthough emo act the Promise Ring's "Is This Thing On?" from 1997's Nothing Feels Good. The label had delivered a vinyl reissue of that album, along with two other Promise Ring LPs, back in the fall.
Elsewhere, you've got entries from Chicago abstract indie outfit Joan of Arc, a vintage piece from their earlier Cap'n Jazz project, a song from Seattle's Pedro the Lion, and material from Blake Schwarzenbach's post-Jawbreaker unit, Jets to Brazil.
Considering co-founders Tim Owen and Darren Walters had both run straight edge hardcore labels ahead of linking up as business partners in 1990, the Jade Tree roster has always had its fair share of punky acts being released alongside the comparatively softer emo acts.
This is reflected on Twenty Five Years by songs from a trio of bands featuring Philly hardcore legend Dan Yemin (Lifetime, Kid Dynamite, Paint it Black), a track off of Fucked Up's 2006 full-length Hidden World, and numbers from Swiz, Strike Anywhere, and melodic crust quartet From Ashes Rise.
You'll find a full tracklist breakdown below.
Twenty Five Years is being released digitally and on vinyl. A limited edition run of 250 vinyl copies will be pressed onto "Coke Bottle Clear with Pink Splatter," which may or may not be a sly reference to the Cherry Coke shout-out from the Promise Ring's 30 Degrees Everywhere number "Red Paint."
