Jack White's Pedal Steel Player Maggie Björklund Announces New Solo Album

BY Alex HudsonPublished Aug 7, 2014

When Jack White took his all-female band the Peacocks on the road a couple of years back, his pedal steel player was a Danish musician named Maggie Björklund, and she also performed on this year's Lazaretto. Now, she's preparing to release a new solo album. Shaken will be out in Europe on September 29, with the North American release following on October 14 through Bloodshot Records.

This is the follow-up to her debut album Coming Home, which was released in Europe in 2009 (and in the U.S. after that), making Shaken her first LP since her time in White's band. It features a guest vocal appearance from Lambchop leader Kurt Wagner, and backing from live Portishead member Jim Barr on bass, Calexico's John Convertino on drums, and PJ Harvey/Sparklehorse collaborator John Parish on guitars and production.

According to an announcement, "Shaken is full of potent memories and emotional outpouring, as translated into the warm but dark sonic textures." It's available to pre-order on CD or vinyl right here.
