Jack White Launches Third Man Books

Third Man Records has previously ventured into the world of film with its monthly movie screenings, and now Jack White's empire is expanding into literature as well. The label has now announced the launch of Third Man Books, which has confirmed the details of its first release.

Language Lessons: Volume I will be out on August 5. It's a 321-page hardback collection of contemporary prose and poetry, featuring 20 authors including Dale Ray Phillips, C.D. Wright, Adrian Matejka and more. It also includes some nonfiction works from punk heroes Richard Hell and Tav Falco.

Given that this is Third Man we're talking about, it's not surprising that the book also has musical and visual components. It will come with two LPs containing music from acts like William Tyler, Destruction Unit, Ken Vandermark, Sampson Starkweather and others. An announcement notes that the music will span "jazz, psychedelic punk, poetry, blues and pop."

There are also five frame-able poems with original art. All this comes house in a clothbound hard case.

Language Lessons was co-edited by Chet Weise and Third Man's behind-the-scenes man Ben Swank. That's what the set looks like above. It's available to pre-order here for $50.
