Earlier this week, a 26-year-old busker named Matt Grant was performing on the streets of Edinburgh when a woman accosted him and smashed his acoustic guitar. A video from the event went viral, and somehow the story made its way to Jack White (despite the rocker not apparently owning a phone). In response, White bought Grant a guitar.
The first video, posted right after the guitar smashing incident, saw Grant explain that he was saddened by his guitar being destroyed due to it being a £300 instrument and his main source of income:
Grant launched a GoFundMe, and quickly raised enough funds to buy a new acoustic. As if that weren't enough, however, he also had Jack White buy him an entire other axe.
The busker shared another Instagram post, detailing that Jack opted to buy Grant a custom Fender Stratocaster, which bore a price tag of £3,600. That's over $6,000 CAD.
"Absolute once in a million lifetimes thing happened today and I cannot thank Jack enough for his absolute generosity," Grant wrote. "Apparently he saw what happened and hit up his manager just this morning, who then amazingly tracked me down to the guitar shop just in time for me to walk out with this absolute beauty. Thanks Jack. I'd love to thank you personally one day, you're a legend."
