Ever the patron of local businesses, Jack White paid a visit to Rufus Guitar Shop while in Vancouver for his back-to-back shows at the Commodore Ballroom last week — and brought his favourite Canadian legends Big Sugar along with him.

White has quite famously hailed Big Sugar's 1993 album 500 Pounds as "the best blues-based record to ever come out of Canada," and finally got a chance to hang out with bandleader Gordie Johnson backstage at a Black Crowes gig — where White's wife, Olivia Jean, was the opener — at Nashville, TN's Grand Ol' Opry last April. Now, the two have reunited in Vancouver, including hitting up Rufus Guitar Shop as part of their plans.

"Thanks @officialjackwhite & @big_sugar_music for stopping by the shop!" the store at 1803 Commercial Drive, which opened its original Alma Street location back in 1972, wrote in an Instagram post. "Stoked to catch the show at the Commodore. Enjoy the Davoli and Ace Tone Space Echo!"

While his concerts are notably setlist-free zones, White has been known to cover 500 Pounds opening track "Ride Like Hell" on this tour behind No Name, with a recording of his rendition even featured on the live album Break It All Down!!!. The crowd at his first Commodore performance on Thursday (May 22) were likewise treated to it, which Johnson enjoyed from backstage as part of his birthday celebrations.
