Islands/Modest Mouse/Man Man Supergroup Nabs Michael Cera to Play Bass

BY Josiah HughesPublished Dec 1, 2010

Yesterday (November 30), we reported that Sub Pop had just inked a deal with a new indie rock supergroup called Mister Heavenly. The band includes Man Man's Ryan Kattner, Modest Mouse's Joe Plummer and Islands/Unicorns frontman Nick Thorburn. As if that wasn't enough to set Urban Outfitters' playlists on fire, word has leaked that the band have enlisted eternally quirky teen heartthrob Michael Cera to play bass.

As The Stranger reports, Cera played the four-string when the band opened for Passion Pit at Seattle's Moore Theatre last night. It was Mister Heavenly's first show, so it's unclear if Cera will be in the group for good or just that one show. It wouldn't be that strange if Cera was brought on as a full-time member, as his musical past involves scoring the film Paper Heart and manning the bass for Sex Bob-omb in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and the Jerk-Offs in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist.

Exclaim! has contacted Sub Pop for confirmation on Cera's status in the band. But with or without Cera, Mister Heavenly will spend the next week-and-a-half cruising the West coast. All dates are below.

UPDATE: According to Sub Pop, no one, including the band themselves, knows if Cera will be a full-time member. However, he will be playing with Mister Heavenly on all upcoming dates.
