After returning last year with his first solo release since 2013, Serj Tankian has announced another new EP. The System of a Down vocalist will deliver the five-track Perplex Cities on October 21 via his Serjical Strike Records.

While last year's Elasticity EP was said to feature five songs intended for a new System of a Down album that never came to be, Tankian says of his latest, "This whole collection of songs within Perplex Cities is a completely different sound than what I've done before. More electronic, subtle and deeper in terms of its layers of presentation musically. Perplex Cities gives off an aura that is unique and unlike my previous releases."

"Unique" and "more electronic" certainly fit the bill when it comes to the EP's accompanying AR experience. Using the Arloopa app, listeners can have Tankian materialize in their listening space and have the vocalist unpack the new music and listen along with them.

It's the only way to hear him explain "Pop Imperialism," and maybe discover what kind of cars his son Rumi loves, in the four weeks leading up to the official release of Perplex Cities.

You can see Tankian testing out the AR version of himself below, where you'll also find the EP's tracklist.

"I'm always trying to create new and interesting ways to connect with people via my music," Tankian continued. "We made some amazing videos for the last EP Elasticity, so I wanted to try something different for Perplex Cities. I love the idea of appearing in the room with someone listening to my music. It's intimate, fun, and different."

In 2020, Tankian and his System of a Down bandmates returned with singles "Protect the Land" and "Genocidal Humanoidz," marking their first new music in 15 years.

Perplex Cities is now available to pre-save.
