Intersessions DJ Series Breaks Gender Boundaries with New Vancouver and Montreal Events
After debuting in Vancouver earlier in the year, and then making it out to Toronto, female-geared DJ workshop series Intersessions has announced the details on its next Canadian editions.

Intersessions is being held at Montreal's 820 Plaza on May 22 and at Vancouver all-ages space Sweet Pup Studios on May 24. One of the goals of the Intersessions workshops is to address the gender imbalance in the music industry, with the events acting as DJ tutorials for women, girls, femme-identifying, and non-binary individuals.

"DJing has long been a male-dominated boys club," organizers explain in a statement. "NonĀmale representation on the bill has become necessary in every musical genre. As part of this mandate, we have determined a need for more grassroots opportunities for these underrepresented groups to become involved with music production and presentation."

It's added that the events "facilitate/nurture community by promoting safety in sharing a movement towards intersectionality and solidarity."

The Vancouver event will be hosted by Rhi Blossom, with participating musicians including Shy Daughter, D. Tiffany, Yurie, Christa Belle and x/o. As for Montreal, the artist lineup includes Ryan Playground, Chippy Nonstop, Frankie Teardrop, Gayance and Nino Brown.

Each event will find the assortment of electronic artists offering up knowledge on how to work audio interfaces like Serato and Traktor, as well as how to mix vinyl.

Additionally, Intersessions makes its New York debut on June 24.
