Inspiral Carpets Reform with Original Singer Stephen Holt, Prep New Material

In the past decade, Inspiral Carpets have released a handful of compilations and gone on occasional tours, but they still haven't released an official LP since 1994's Devil Hopping. That will soon change, as the group are planning to record new material and head out on tour.

In an announcement on their official website [via Slicing Up Eyeballs], the band revealed that they have reunited with original singer Stephen Holt. He was a founding member of the group, but left before they achieved widespread commercial success.

With Holt back in the fold, the group have been "rediscovering their garage band roots," and are even using a website banner that reads "Inspiral Carpets Garage Band." There's no word as to when we'll be hearing new music from the reformed outfit, but they promise that a worldwide tour is on the way, so stay tuned.

Organ player Clint Boon tweeted, "First gigs likely to be in South America in November."

Holt has rejoined following the departure of frontman Tom Hingley. Boon wrote, "@TomHingleyMusic is not involved with the reformed Inspiral Carpets. He stepped out of the band earlier this year."

He added, "We wish Tom all the best in his solo career. We had a nice meeting with him yesterday, shook hands and went our seperate [sic] ways."
