Hotline TNT's 'Raspberry Moon' Shines Brightly Through the Clouds

Exclaim! Staff Picks

Will Anderson used to front the Vancouver shoegaze band Weed, but since moving back to his home country of the US, he's upped his game significantly with Hotline TNT. That band's second album, Raspberry Moon, strips away the lo-fi muck and pushes the famously hazy genre toward maximalist grandeur.

Listening to Raspberry Moon, I'm reminded of Japandroids' Celebration Rock: the aching romance embedded in these walls of fuzz, and the anthemic majesty of "Julia's War." The vocals have far more presence than your average shoegaze recording — the lyrics are clearly audible! — meaning that Raspberry Moon shines brightly through the clouds.
