With 2014 marking the 100 year anniversary of the First World War, Ottawa indie act Hilotrons are honouring this centennial with a special tour. These shows will include a screening of the Canadian silent film Carry On, Sergeant!, which was directed by Bruce Bairnsfather and came out in 1928.
All of the Carry On, Sergeant! shows will take place in theatres across Quebec and Ontario in October and November. As accompaniment to the flick — which tells of forbidden love in wartime — Hilotrons will provide a live score drawing on classic themes by great Italian composer Ennio Morricone. There are nine screenings in all. Watch a trailer for the project below.
Interspersed between these special dates are some more traditional live gigs. Most of these are also in Ontario and Quebec, plus one in Nova Scotia. See the full schedule below.
Hilotrons have apparently spent much of 2014 working on their Morricone adaptation. In 2015, they will release a new album called To Trip with Terpsichore via Label Records.
