Here's Why Bono Is Always Wearing Sunglasses

If you've ever made fun of Bono for wearing sunglasses all of the time, then get ready to feel guilty: the U2 frontman has explained that he wears shades because he has glaucoma.

Speaking with BBC One's The Graham Norton Show, the Irish arena-filler said, "This is a good place to explain to people that I've had glaucoma for the last 20 years." He added, "I have good treatments and I am going to be fine."

He also joked, "You're not going to get this out of your head now and you will be saying, 'Ah, poor old blind Bono.'"

Advanced glaucoma can cause blindness, but it doesn't seem that Bono is in risk of that.

It doesn't come as a complete surprise to learn that Bono has glaucoma. In 2011, he spoke with Rolling Stone about why he wears sunglasses all the time, explaining, "[I'm] very sensitive eyes to light. If somebody takes my photograph, I will see the flash for the rest of the day. My right eye swells up. I've a blockage there, so that my eyes go red a lot. So it's part vanity, it's part privacy and part sensitivity."

We're assuming that Bono will also be offering a medical explanation for why he wears leather jackets so often. Surely that can't be a fashion statement?
