A debut album from Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak as Silk Sonic has been hotly anticipated after only a pair of single drops, and the pair have shed more light on when it could arrive in a new interview.
A Rolling Stone profile with Mars and .Paak reveals that An Evening with Silk Sonic — which reportedly features Bootsy Collins as a "special guest host" — was initially slated for release this fall. Ultimately, the two pushed the release date back, with the album now expected out in January 2022.
Mars tells Rolling Stone that the decision was made in the interest of delivering more singles ahead of the LP's arrival, telling the publication, "I don't want to be binge-watched."
"We're really in touch-up mode now," Mars continued. "We've got the bones of most of the album, so it's really about touching up parts that need a little more...grease."
The two also spoke about how the seeds for Silk Sonic were planted after .Paak landed a support slot on Mars' 2016 European tour behind his most recent studio LP. "I was opening for the '24K Magic' tour," .Paak recalled, "and a week in, we were in the studio." "Real quick!" Mars added.
