Joel Plaskett, KINLEY, Jenn Grant Among Early 2018 East Coast Music Awards Winners

Sloan, Rose Cousins and Quake Matthews have also won awards

The East Coast Music Awards are fully underway over in Halifax, and tonight several of the big 2018 awards were handed out.

During a special awards show at Scotiabank Centre, early awards went to the likes of Joel Plaskett (Songwriter of the Year), Rose Cousins (Album of the Year), KINLEY (Fans' Choice Video of the Year and Rising Star Recording of the Year), Les Païens (Group Recording of the Year) and Jenn Grant (Pop Recording of the Year). 

Hardware was also given to City Natives, (Indigenous Artist of Year), Quake Matthews (Rap/Hip Hop Recording of the Year) and Matt Minglewood (Fans' Choice Entertainer of the Year). East Coast pop royalty Sloan were also given the Directors' Special Achievement Award.

During tonight's nationally broadcasted ceremony hosted by comedian Jonathan Torrens, there were also live performances by Neon Dreams, the Barra MacNeils, City Natives, the East Pointers, the Joel Plaskett Emergency, KINLEY, Makayla Lynn, Measha Brueggergosman, the Once, Port Cities, Quake Matthews, Rose Cousins, Universal Soul, Sloan and Classified.

The remaining 2018 East Coast Music Awards, including the Industry Awards, will be handed out on Sunday (May 6) as part of the East Coast Music and Industry Awards celebration taking place at the Nova Scotia Ballroom in the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront Hotel.
