Indie singer-songwriter Hein Cooper may hail all the way from Australia, but his self-titled debut EP was recorded right here in Canada — and Exclaim! has got you covered with an advanced listen to it.
Discovered in Sydney by Half Moon Run's manager, Franz Schuller, the Aussie songsmith made his way to Montreal to record his first official release. The four-track offering was produced by Marcus Paquin (Arcade Fire, the National, Hey Rosetta!) and explores themes of "change, escapism and transformation."
That urge to be on the move is evident from the folksy, finger-picked opening track "The Art of Escape," and carries on through the darker, electro-tinged "The Real," and the short, sweet and soothing "Luna Sky." The listener's journey ends with a remix of "Art of Escape" courtesy of Tora, which gives the tune a slinky, shimmering synth-pop makeover.
