Heavy Steps

'You, Conduit' (album stream)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Feb 23, 2012

Vancouverites Chris van der Laan and Melissa Gregerson have collaborated countless times over the years, from playing in now-defunct indie rockers Animal Names, to slinging verses in pro-weed hip-hop troupe Too High Crew (As Chrissy and Lil Puke, respectively), to Gregerson's contributions to van der Laan's pop punk unit Wars. Up next for their always evolving musical relationship is a full-length debut as Heavy Steps titled You, Conduit.

The 14-song effort contains a heady blend of Beach House-styled downer pop ("Don't Worry About the Fire," "New Tetris"), torch ballads anchored by Gregerson's moody vibrato ("Pentultimate Breeze"), lo-fi ukulele jams ("Not Not") and a smattering of uncouth, sample-assisted interludes. You can grab the album for $5 on their Bandcamp or stream it all below.
