Hear the Week's Best New Canadian Music: U.S. Girls, Begonia, Nemahsis, Zoon

BY Exclaim! StaffPublished Feb 24, 2023

Despite being the shortest month of the year, February can have a uniquely inhospitable nature. The depths of winter toggle back and forth between loosening their grasp and letting signs of spring emerge. If you're not having the best time, you're not alone — and Canadian artists have given their best attempts to help that noggin produce a little serotonin yet again with the week's best new music.

Nemahsis wants to be your right hand with her Smashing Pumpkins-esque new single and Zoon is likewise feeling nostalgic for their youth in Selkirk, MB, on the wistful "Manitou."

It's also nothing short of a massive week for album releases, as if everyone was racing to put out their records before February closed its curtains. You'll need at least the remainder of the month to dig into the latest from U.S. Girls (Bless This Mess), Begonia (Powder Blue), Bria (Cuntry Covers Vol. 2), BIG|BRAVE, Gabrielle Shonk (Across the Room) and They Grieve (To Which I Bore Witness).

Elsewhere, Jenn Grant teams up with Amy Millan and Hannah Georgas, and Kirin J. Callahan and Hubert Lenoir join forces on "Young Drunk Driver." We also got new singles from BabygirlBerniceGinger Taylor, Witch Prophet and Rich Aucoin in his purest form.

If you're in the market for a hat-trick of a tune, you can find 99 great ones with The Eh! List below, presented by Mary Brown's Chicken & Taters — all Canadian and proud of it!
