Hear the Week's Best New Canadian Music: Alexisonfire, Spiritbox, Jessie Reyez

BY Exclaim! StaffPublished Jun 24, 2022

Fancy running into you here! It's been another week, so you know it's time for another round-up of everything new and exciting in the world of Canadian music.

After assuring all of Coachella that her new album is still a work-in-progress back in April, Jessie Reyez delivers what might be its first single. The motherfucking princess Avril Lavigne gives us a twofer for Spotify Singles (including a surprisingly faithful cover of Adele's "Hello"), and there are new singles from Arkells (with Coeur de pirate and Aly & AJ), Mike Edel, Julianna Riolino (of Daniel Romano's Outfit) and Richard Reed Parry (with Susie Ibarra).

The big story — cover-sized, some might say — in album releases this week is obviously Alexisonfire; after 13 years, Otherness is here. Elsewhere, there were new records from Fredricton's Motherhood (Winded) and Victoria's Art d'Ecco, while Spiritbox surprise-released their Rotoscope EP after bandleader Courtney LaPlante said she was quitting her job as per Beyoncé's instruction. (It seems like new Bey actually begets new Spiritbox instead of the other way around!)

Prick up your ears to plenty more pleasant surprises on The Eh! List below, presented by Mary Brown's Chicken & Taters — all Canadian and proud of it!
