The first annual Dream Serenade Benefit Concert has revealed its lineup, and it's shaping up to be an evening of excellent music for a good cause.
Feist, Matt Berninger and Aaron Dessner of the National, Sarah Harmer and Kevin Hearn of the Barenaked Ladies will be performing live at the event, which will take place in Toronto at Massey Hall on October 25. Jason Collett, Grey Lands (a.k.a. Cuff the Duke's Wayne Petti) and Lou Canon are also on the bill.
The show is curated and presented by Hayden Desser (who is also scheduled to perform) and his wife Christie Greyerbiehl, with proceeds going to services at schools, pre-schools, hospitals and parent respite services that help children with developmental disabilities. This includes Toronto's Beverley Street School.
"We hope to see Dream Serenade continue and grow each year," said Greyerbiehl in a statement about the inaugural event. "Beyond being just an opportunity to raise money for the much deserving recipients, our hope is that this event not only inspires the spirit of generosity but is also a fun night out for the families and school staff, the artists who are generously sharing their time and talents with us, and all those who attend."
The idea for the show has been floating around for nearly five years, since Desser and Greyerbiehl's daughter was born with a rare chromosomal deletion. "She's the most beautiful and inspiring person," said Desser. "And yet our experience as parents has been among the most complex and challenging adventures we've ever known."
Tickets for the event range from $50 to $200 and go on sale September 17. More information about the benefit can be found here.
