While we reported on a sprawling new Brain Records box set and a new Popol Vuh reissue series earlier this week, celebrated kosmische innovator Hans-Joachim Roedelius is now getting in on the action, announcing a new collaborative album with Swedish multimedia artist Carl Michael von Hausswolff.

Their joint record is called Nordlicht, and it will see release on March 30 via newly relaunched Iowa-based label Curious Music.

The album is being pressed on 180-gram clear vinyl, which is limited to 500 copies, as well as digitally. The vinyl also includes high-resolution, numbered art print and download card.

Best known for his work with Krautrock legends Cluster and Harmonia, Roedelius first teamed up with von Hausswolff on the 2016 project freq_out 12. For Nordlicht, the album contains four pieces, which "were originally intended as informal creative exercises born from a shared curiosity and mutual interest in collaboration," a press release explains.

Among the instruments used on the new album are piano, sine wave generators, synthesizer and EVP vocals, as well as nocturnal field recordings captured on the shore of the Spanish island of Lanzarote. The press release adds, "The abstract nature of the work and idiosyncratic sound sources are somewhat reminiscent of Roedelius' earliest efforts with the experimental groups Human Being and Kluster."

In a statement, Roedelius had this to say about his work with von Hausswolff:

I first met CM in Vienna by the shore of the river where the most famous actor Orson Welles was shot when he tried to escape from being hunted by the police for crime. We didn't recognize each other in the dark. Later, at University of Arts in Vienna, CM taught me to play music from scores as I had been unable to do this since I became a composer/musician. He became my teacher, good friend and co-operator in the field of all contemporary and pre- and past- historic arts and especially the art of Nordlicht.

In some related news, Curious Music also recently reissued Roedelius's 2008 album Inlandish on vinyl. You can learn more about that release over here, where you can also hear sound samples and order the album.
