Maritimes music festival the Halifax Pop Explosion has unveiled the first wave of artists attached to the annual event, with big draws including Atlanta rap vet Killer Mike and hometown hero Joel Plaskett.

In their initial announcement, organizers confirmed that R.A.P. Music maker Killer Mike will be one of the marquee stars for the impending Pop Explosion, which will run across various venues in Halifax between October 22 and 26. While the rhymer has an upcoming North American tour with collaborator El-P as Run the Jewels, Mike's Pop Explosion appearance is billed as a solo event.

Halifax-born songsmith Joel Plaskett is also set to appear as a headliner, though the longtime rocker will be joined by recent tourmate Mo Kenny at his gig, which is being presented by Symphony Nova Scotia. Other artists attached to play at some point during the fest include Crosss, Dark for Dark, UBT and Kashka.

On the comedy front, bearded metal enthusiast Brian Posehn will also make his way out to the Maritimes this October.

More artist reveals will take place in the lead-up to the event.
