Half-Handed Cloud to Return with New LP This Fall

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jun 21, 2010

For over a decade, Berkeley, CA-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist John Ringhofer has explored ADD-addled weird pop with his Half-Handed Cloud moniker. Like a sugar-buzzing version of his label-mate and occasional collaborator Sufjan Stevens, Ringhofer uses overblown themes and an endless stream of musical ideas to create short, dense bursts. This fall, he'll do it once again with his fifth proper album.
The record is called As Stowaways in Cabinets of Surf, We Live-out in Our Members a Kind of Rebirth and follows last year's rarities comp, Cut Me Down & Count My Rings. According to a press release, the new album features 25 songs loosely based around the theme of water and was recorded in the sanctuary of the same Berkeley church where Ringhofer has lived and worked as a custodian for seven years.

Asthmatic Kitty will release As Stowaways... on September 28. In the meantime, album tracks "Splashdowns Hold the Hymnal Together" and "I'm Over the Need to Bail" can be heard on Half-handed Cloud's MySpace page.
