Gucci Mane Sentenced to One Year in Prison

While it's hard to know if his upcoming album, The State vs. Radric Davis, is as good as Paper Trail or Tha Carter 3, Atlanta, GA rapper Gucci Mane can already consider both T.I. and Lil Wayne his peers in the rap game. Why? Mane has just been sentenced to a year in prison.

The rapper has risen to prominence with guest spots on tracks by Black Eyed Peas, Mariah Carey, 50 Cent and Lil Wayne, not to mention his tireless mixtapes. Now, as MTV reports, he'll have to abandon the momentum with a 12-month jail sentence.

The whole issue stems back to 2005, when the rapper pled guilty to attacking a nightclub promoter. Last September, he was sentenced to a year in jail for ignoring his required 600 hours of community service. Mane served six months of that sentence, but has since violated the terms of his parole. That's why he was taken away in handcuffs on Thursday (November 12).

Although he's been handed the year-long prison term, there's a chance that Mane will be out after six months. By then, The State vs. Radric Davis, which is due to be released on December 8, will have had some time to percolate, and he just might be a superstar.
