Grimes has been giving fans periodic updates about her new album, but the last we heard, she said there would be "no music any time soon after all...music industry is trash." Luckily, she seems to have changed her tune at least somewhat, since she now says she is working on two new albums — one for her current label and then one for a new label.

This news comes from an Instagram. She shared an image with the caption "im back in the studio making a million beats" (see below). Then, in a subsequent post in the comments section, she clarified her plans for two albums, which will be released "separated by a period of time" rather than simultaneously.

Here's what she said [via Stereogum]:

one final album for my shit label and then my first album on a label of my choosing which im crazy stoked about eeeee. or i might go fully independent, researching options. the second one will be extreme darkness and chaos, the first will be highly collaborative and most glorious light

Grimes didn't clarify her "shit label" comment, but she is currently signed to 4AD.

UPDATE (2/26, 12:20 p.m. EST): Grimes has now issued an apology of sorts to her label. You can read it below.

Earlier this month, she said that the album would be out in 2018, revealing, "i would say spring but realistically, fall."

Hopefully her label woes haven't pushed back that timeline too much.
