Grimes Let Fans Pay What They Want for New LP

BY Alex HudsonPublished Oct 14, 2010

Radiohead's In Rainbows came out in 2007, but its "pay what you want" release remains a landmark moment in online music distribution. Montreal experimentalist Grimes (aka Claire Boucher) has opted to follow a similar model to release her new album, Halfaxa.

The album is out now via Arbutus Records. If you go here, you'll find a link to the full album with two options: "Don't Donate" and "Donate." You can pay as much or as little as you want, and either way you will get the full 15-song album.

Grimes has also released the album on CD, and you can pick up a disc in gatefold packaging for just $8 (plus shipping).

Last month, Boucher told us, "This album is more like medieval times… I want to combine the feeling of sitting in a beautiful church with a reverb-y choir, but I want to combine that with the feeling of dancing to really good music."
