Prolific post-punks Greys continue to kick out the jams. Following 2014's If Anything LP, the group returned with their Repulsion 7-inch last year. Now, they've announced a new full-length.
The release is called Outer Heaven and was produced by Mike Rocha at Montreal's fabled Hotel2Tango studio. The album lands on April 22 via Buzz Records/Carpark Records.
According to the press release, "The record sees the band expand into more spacious environments, letting them build upon their noise rock foundation by incorporating new textures and dynamics to temper their trademark onslaught of discordance." It also goes on to describe the album as "a distinct mixture of melody and dissonance, order and chaos, volume and substance."
Ahead of the album's arrival, the group shared their new single "No Star" today. In a press release, the band's Shehzaad Jiwani explained that the song was inspired by last year's terrorist attacks in Paris.
He had this to say about the track:
On one side, you had people burning down mosques and acting violently towards anyone who looked remotely Muslim. On the other, you had people speaking on behalf of the victims and effectively telling them how they should feel about such atrocities.
It's a song about not knowing where you fit in as a person of colour who was raised in a predominantly white community, not identifying completely with either side. It's about not having a voice, but moreover not knowing where or when or how to speak regardless. It's about wanting someone to understand and relate to you, but most importantly, letting you speak for yourself.
