Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong Enters Rehab for Substance Abuse

Yesterday (September 22), we reported on an incident involving Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, who dropped an onstage rant and smashed his guitar when his band's set time was allegedly cut short at the iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas. Now, however, it has been revealed that the outburst was actually caused by a substance abuse problem.

While we don't know exactly what substance, representatives from Green Day issued a public statement to the Associated Press revealing that Armstrong had checked into rehab to get treatment for his problem.

The statement also confirms that Green Day's set wasn't actually cut short at the festival, adding an apology from the band "to those they offended at the iHeartRadio Festival."

Green Day is set to release their upcoming new album ¡Uno! on September 25 via Reprise before kicking off a North American tour in late November.

It is currently unknown if Armstrong's rehabilitation will affect the band's tour schedule, though the statement did reveal that they will be scaling back their promotional push for the new album.
