Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong Scoring New Version of Shakespeare's 'Much Ado About Nothing'

Having previously flirted with the rock-opera format on 2004's American Idiot, Green Day leader Billie Joe Armstrong is now dabbling with classic theatre pieces, having been tapped to score a new version of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing.

As the New York Times reports, the pop-punk guitarist/vocalist will pen new tunes for playwright Rolin Jones' adaptation These Paper Bullets, which will be staged by New Haven, CT's Yale Repertory Theatre in March 2014.

The Elizabethan play will allegedly be reworked to feature a Liverpool rock band trying to "find their way in the London music scene." Armstrong has yet to comment on the project.

This won't be the first theatrical project for Armstrong, having brought American Idiot to Berkeley and Broadway 2009 and 2010, respectively, and even taking the lead role of St. Jimmy for a spell. The show was also staged in Toronto in 2011.

Green Day, meanwhile, are just about to jump into a chunk of rescheduled arena dates, including stops in Toronto and Quebec City in April.
