Green Day Postpone North American Tour with Best Coast

BY Alex HudsonPublished Oct 29, 2012

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong entered rehab last month for substance abuse following an onstage meltdown. Evidently, the arena-rocking pop punk star won't be returning to work anytime soon, since Green Day just rescheduled their upcoming tour dates.

The band were due to play a number of U.S. gigs in November and December, but these have been cancelled outright. Their dates arena tour in January and February with Best Coast, meanwhile, have been postponed until later in 2013. This delayed North American tour includes Canadian stops in Quebec City and Toronto. Expect new dates to be announced soon.

"Obviously the timing for this isn't ideal, but Billie Joe's well-being is our main concern," said bassist Mike Dirnt in a statement. "We are happy to say that Billie Joe is doing well, and we want to thank you all for the outpouring of support and well wishes that we have received, and we can't wait to see you all again soon."

As consolation for their fans, Green Day have moved up the release date for ¡Tré!, the final instalment in their new album trilogy, from January 15 to December 11.

Green Day will release ¡Dos! on November 9. Listen to the newly unveiled album cut "Stop When the Red Lights Flash" at the bottom of the page.
