Godly the Ruler has solidified their place in the music scene as they have signed to Everything Forever (the label founded by Said the Whale's Tyler Bancroft). The news follows in the wake of the genre-bending musician's hedonistic video for the single "off with your head."

It's of little surprise Everything Forever was so quick to sign the Nigeria-born, Chicago-raised artist, as they blend elements of rock, punk and hints of electronic to offer a unique spin on hip-hop. The label shared the announcement in an Instagram post, with a caption welcoming Godly the Ruler to their family.

Godly the Ruler's eclectic music is best exemplified by their recent single: "'off with your head' is a soundscape that draws on my various influences to deliver a larger than life musical experience," they shared in a press release. "The accompanying video similarly blends live-action and 3D cinematography to offer a gory answer to the question 'what are we willing to do for the ones we love?'"

The Augie Voss-directed video was shot over two days in Los Angeles and features animations by Jovy Bergen, a rising Canadian digital artist. With characters donning knitted ski masks resembling rabbits, the video comes on strong. One of these masked vigilantes — sporting a particularly unsettling smile — bashes an unsuspecting pedestrian over the head with a baseball bat.

Soon after, the video morphs into animated, video-game-style characters taking part in a bloody battle backtracked by the artist's raucous vocals. The scenes evoke Black Mirror, both through their violent content and their sinister tech.

More music is expected from Godly the Ruler in early 2022, but while we wait, check out the video for "off with your head" below.
