Gillian Welch Lines Up North American Tour, Returns to Canada

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jun 10, 2011

Bluegrass-tinged folk singer Gillian Welch is coming out of an eight-year hibernation to release her new album The Harrow and the Harvest later this month. As such, it's time for her to get back into the habit of performing solo on the road, which is what she will do with a comprehensive summer tour.

As previously reported, Welch will perform on the opening day of the Vancouver Folk Festival, which runs from July 15 to 17. Her other Canadian stop will be an appearance at Toronto's Phoenix Concert Hall on July 25. On top of that, she will play many shows throughout the United States in the two-month trip.

All dates are available below, with more expected to be added soon.

The Harrow and the Harvest will be available on June 28 via Welch's own Acony Records. The Decemberists' Colin Meloy has heard the record, which features the cover above, and described it as "a new Southern sound... with the sort of songs you wouldn't be surprised to hear issuing from some verdant, wooded hollow in Appalachia; Songs you'd expect to hear hollered from an Asheville grange hall, all too late in the evening. Songs with the wry humor of the back porch."
