The city of Atlanta recently put down a cool $11.6 million US on a tunnel-boring machine to turn an area quarry into an emergency drinking water reservoir. After asking for the public's help in naming the machine, city officials have narrowed the competition down to three finalists, one of which was amazingly inspired by Atlanta's own Killer Mike.
In paying homage to the rapper, multiple ballots were cast to name the machine "Driller Mike." As resident Bryan Schroeder explained in his submission, "Killer Mike chews through words and raps like he's got diamond tipped teeth. A good role model for this drill, Driller Mike, to look up to!"
The machine's name can be voted on here, with the other two finalists being "Scarlett" and "Peach Beast." But as you can see from the current tally below, "Driller Mike" is demolishing the competition.
The final name will be revealed at the machine's launch in the fall. Those who submitted the name will have the option of participating in the launch and christening event.
