Games Forced to Change Name, Look to Fans for Suggestions

BY Josiah HughesPublished Nov 24, 2010

Brooklyn-based electronic guru Daniel Lopatin is best known for his kosmische wizardry as Oneohtrix Point Never, but the artist has also made waves with his recent collaboration with Tigercity's Joel Ford. The chillwave-leaning duo named themselves Games and recently released an excellent That We Can Play twelve-inch, as well as a seven-inch and several mixtapes. Unfortunately, it looks as if they will now have to find a new moniker.

Though the story is lacking in details, the Stranger points to a tweet from Lopatin saying, "Games canr [sic] legally be called Games anymore. Shwagy situation. So we are reaching out for band name suggestions." Lopatin later gave an update, writing "cant just add letters its still illegal."

Among the suggestions tweeted by fans, our favourites include Board Games of Canada, Games From Above 1979 and Games Earl Jones. If they want to avoid some sort of cheesy pun, however, Lopatin and Ford need look no further than the Chillwave/Witch House name generator. Our first try gave us "WE ΔRE SYSTEM."
