Despite performing some ear-blistering concerts and a split 7-inch with MOAB last year, it's been a while since stoner vets Fu Manchu have delivered a proper album. That's all about to change, though, with news that the group is ready to drop an oppressive new long-player dubbed Gigantoid.
Due April 29 through the band's own At the Dojo Records, Gigantoid is their first full-length since 2009's Signs of Infinite Power. A press release notes that the quartet tracked the set with MOAB member Andrew Giacumakis' at his home studio in Simi Valley, CA, and apparently Gigantoid presents a more "primitive, raw and ultra fuzzed-out sound" than we're used to from Fu Manchu.
"We wrote 17 new songs for this record and got our favorite nine songs out of that together," singer/guitarist Scott Hill said of the sessions, adding that the unused songs were potentially going to be used for Gigantoid Part 2, but may instead arrive in another form around the time of the group's 25th anniversary in 2015.
Ahead of the new album's release, you can stream the bong-blazing rawk riffs and '70s-styled space-laser phasers of first single "Anxiety Reducer," courtesy of Brooklyn Vegan. The track can be found down below, along with Gigantoid's tracklisting and a North American tour schedule that includes stops in Toronto and Montreal.
