Frank Ocean's father, Calvin Cooksey, is reportedly suing his singer son for $14.5 million USD. According to TMZ, Cooksey has filed a lawsuit alleging defamation over a Tumblr post published by Ocean last year.
Cooksey claims that his son's accusations of using a homophobic slur damaged his own "financial opportunities" in the film and music industries.
Shared in the wake of the Orlando shootings, the post found Ocean reflecting on his childhood experiences with homophobia. A portion reads:
I was six years old when I heard my dad call our transgender waitress a faggot as he dragged me out a neighborhood diner saying we wouldn't be served because she was dirty. That was the last afternoon I saw my father and the first time I heard that word, I think, although it wouldn't shock me if it wasn't.
Cooksey maintains that the story is untrue. Ocean has yet to publicly comment on the lawsuit.
