Fortunato Durutti Marinetti Announces New Album 'Bitter Sweet, Sweet Bitter'

Hear "Full of Fire" now

Toronto jazz poet Fortunato Durutti Marinetti has announced his latest album of expansive, idiosyncratic art rock. Bitter Sweet, Sweet Bitter is out July 25 via We Are Time / Quindi Records.

The album features contributions from New Chance (duet vocals on "Beware") and Jay Arner (clavinet on "Beware," as well as mixing for the entire LP). It was recorded mostly live with a six-piece band in a Toronto attic studio.

Bitter Sweet, Sweet Bitter's title nods to Anne Carson's 1996 book of criticism Eros: The Bittersweet. A press release points to sonic touchstones like Destroyer and Tindersticks, describing the sound as "maximally graceful funky eloquence."

Below, hear the single "Full of Fire" — a Thelma & Louise-style account of mutually assured destruction, which builds from barebones poetry to a jaunty, baroque groove. The album is available to pre-order from Bandcamp.

2. Beware
3. Do You Ever Think?
4. Call Me the Author
5. Theme I (Alex's Theme)
