Fontaines D.C. have detailed a new album. The Dublin post-punks will deliver third studio LP Skinty Fia on April 22 via Partisan Records.
Following Grammy-nominated 2020 sophomore LP A Hero's Death, the 10-track Skinty Fia takes its title from an old Irish expression that roughly translates as "the damnation of the deer." Frontman Grian Chatten told Rolling Stone of the material, "A lot of it is revealing itself to me to be largely informed and influenced by Irishness existing in England... and mutating and becoming a new kind of culture in general."
Of the album's title, Chatten explains, "'Skinty Fia' is an expression that [drummer Tom Coll's] great auntie used to say... I never heard it before Tom said it to me recently, but it was a substitute for a swear word, basically. If she drops something, she'd say, 'Ah, skinty fia.'"
The first song to arrive from Skinty Fia is "Jackie Down the Line," which you can hear below alongside a video directed by Hugh Mulhern.
Alongside the album news, Fontaines D.C. have also mapped out a 2022 world tour, with three Canadian stops set for the month of May. The group will first play back-to-back evenings at Montreal's Corona Theatre and Toronto's Phoenix Concert Theatre on May 2 and 3, respectively, ahead of playing Vancouver's Rickshaw Theatre on May 13.
