The 2019 edition of the Folk Alliance International conference will take place in Montreal. The announcement was made during a press conference at Toronto's Canadian Music Week today.

The conference will run in Montreal from February 13 to 17, and will be hosted at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel.

The theme for next year's event was revealed to be "The Spirit of Creativity."

"Montreal was a natural choice for our return to Canada," FAI executive director Aengus Finnan said in a statement. "From Harmonium and La Bottine Souriante, to the McGarrigles, Paul Piché, Connie Kaldor, Jim Corcoran, Penny Lang, Lasha, Orealis, Kashtin, and of course Leonard Cohen — Montreal has always been an epicentre for folk music."

The annual event brings together delegates from across the folk music industry to participate in workshops, panels, classes, networking events and keynote addresses.
