After two decades in the business, Five Finger Death Punch are in a celebratory mood today, announcing 20 Years of Five Finger Death Punch - Best of Volume 1, due July 18 via Better Noise Music.
Including re-recorded classics, as well as three previously unheard live recordings, the album comes in response to the band's catalogue being sold off without their consent by their former label.
Founding guitarist Zoltan Bathory explained in a statement:
We would have loved to have a shot at reclaiming our masters, or at least to be involved in the transaction but we found out after the fact. Surprised, but not surprised. These kinds of behind closed doors deals have become far too common in the music industry. Labels buy, sell or trade artists' work without their knowledge or consent, reducing them to soulless commodities. But life is a chess game so when this happened to Taylor Swift, she responded by re-recording her catalog. After that respectably bold move, her fans switched to streaming the new version out of protest and loyalty. We have one of the most hardcore and loyal fan bases on the planet so I know our fans will do the same.
The band start their FFDP's Version era with the re-recording of fan-favourite "I Refuse," on which In This Moment's Maria Brink lends vocals. You can hear that below, where you'll also find the Best of Volume 1 tracklist.
In honour of the band's 20th anniversary, they've also released a commemorative merch line.
