Feist and Mastodon Plotting Split Seven-Inch

Feist is typically known for her mom-friendly, adult contemporary-tinged sound, but the famed songstress will soon be getting a dose of heavy thanks to a forthcoming collaboration with Mastodon. She previously hinted at this match-up, and now it looks as if it's actually going to happen.

In a new interview with MTV News Canada (see below), Mastodon bassist Troy Sanders revealed that his band are planning to team up with Feist for a split seven-inch to be released on Record Store Day 2012 (April 21).

He explained, "The idea is for Mastodon to cover a Feist song and throw some hair and dirt on it. They're going to take a Mastodon song and pretty it up a little bit."

The plan is far from set in stone, but by the sound of things, everyone is on board to make this a reality.

Sanders revealed, "We only have a short window to make that happen, which is the month of December, but we're going to do everything we can to work with Feist and have a split seven-inch to support independent record stores."

While we wait for more details, let's start imagining which songs they're going to cover. Any guesses? We'd love to hear Mastodon take on "Past in Present."
