California's Fawns of Love, composed of singer Jenny Andreotti and multi-instrumentalist Joseph Andreotti, have announced that their third album, Innocence of Protection, is on the way on November 26 via Kingfisher Bluez/Sunday Records. The husband-and-wife duo dropped the record's title track to celebrate the news, complete with a retro-style video.

As hinted at by its title, the album centres on three primary themes: innocence, vulnerability and frailty. "I think, when we are children, we use make-believe as a creative outlet, but as we get older, we use daydreaming as a tool of protection when we feel overwhelmed and as a way to have control over something," Jenny Andreotti said in explanation of these central themes. "For this album, I liked the idea of recreating what it feels like to float in and out of daydreaming and reality."

Innocence of Protection was written and recorded in the duo's studio, drawn on influences like the Pastels, Cocteau Twins and New Order.

To further draw from such prolific players, the duo had Paul West — who created art for Cocteau Twins and Depeche Mode — create the record's artwork and layout. The heavy presence of the Cocteau Twins amongst this new project is unsurprising, as the synthpop duo previously released a 7-inch with a contribution from the group's Robin Guthrie in 2020.

The title track's video recalls pillars of the pop art movement, bringing to mind Lichtenstein and Warhol through the pastel-palette and comic-like characters overlapping with the band's performance.

Fawns of Love will perform at Substance festival in Los Angeles in November and at the New Colossus Festival in New York City in March 2022. The album is available for preorder, but check out the "Innocence of Protection" video below in the meantime.
