Ottawa-based artist Hannah Judge, performing under the moniker fanclubwallet, has released an emotional lo-fi single titled "That I Won't Do." It's the first new track from Judge since her breakout EP Hurt Is Boring in May.

"That I Won't Do" follows the Canadian artist as she grapples with the tendency of new relationships to destabilize individual identity. "The song is about dealing with a new relationship where you aren't sure whether the person is good for you or not, and you're not feeling like yourself," Judge revealed in a press release. "It's about trying to break bad habits while not wanting to break them at all."

Judge's debut EP was written during a Crohn's disease flare-up, leaving her bedridden in her childhood home for nearly a year. While the idiosyncratic pop-packed Hurt Is Boring chronicled a period of seclusion, Judge's new track was written during the remission of her illness. "That I Won't Do" was influenced by Judge's re-entry into the world and socialization — an experience felt by all as we collectively emerge from pandemic-imposed lockdowns.

The artist's re-emergence comes with a handful of tour dates listed below, including performances in Ottawa and Toronto this month supporting Montreal's Fleece.

Speaking of performances, you can read about fanclubwallet's favourite live show alongside a bunch of other Canadian musicians.
