England World Cup Fans Are Obsessed with "Three Lions (Football's Coming Home)" Again

World Cup fever is reaching its peak as the semi-finals kick off today — and surprisingly enough, England has managed to hold on to a spot in the final four. A wave of optimism seems to have washed over fans of the Three Lions, and as such, the Lightning Seeds' 1996 anthem "Three Lions (It's Coming Home)" is seeing a resurgence.

The track was originally released in 1996 (when England hosted that year's European Championships) and features comedians David Baddiel and Frank Skinner.

In addition to climbing up the UK's pop charts, "Three Lions" has been turned into a viral meme on Twitter, as Deadspin points out. Fans have swapped out the sound from iconic film and pop culture scenes and replaced it with the cheesy bombast of the UK football anthem.

From parodies of The Matrix, Shrek and The Office to rewrites of the royal wedding and Michael Jackson videos, see some of the most hilarious results below.

As you probably already know if you're reading this, England face off against Croatia in the World Cup semi-finals tomorrow (July 11) at 2 p.m. EDT.
